2013-10-02 Today, we finally got around to riding the cable cars! We braved the queues and caught one up to the top of Lombard Street. Strictly speaking, it is merely the start of the famous windy bit... Like most tourists, we alighted at the top and proceeded with a leisurely stroll down the steps on the side walk, stopping for numerous photos along the way.

After returning to the top, we got the last spots on the returning cable car. They are also the best, as you stand up and hang on to the side for dear life as the car trundles along! Far more exciting than sitting inside!

Lunch from Wallgreens enjoyed in Union Square was next, followed by an unfruitful visit to the largest shoe store I had ever been in. Probably had too much choice to make a decision!

Having become more confident of not getting completely lost on public transport, we made our way down to Van ness and found the D-store - the biggest store outside of Italy selling exclusively Dainese (motorcycle) gear. I bought myself at pair of waterproof boots... Now to work out how to get them home...

We returned via the 71 bus, recuperated briefly, before using the 33 bus to get to the Castro and Mission districts. Castro wasn't really our scene, so we ended up in a Mexican restaurant on Mission Street. Different from " Cha Cha Cha" but just as enjoyable.

We are still not sure what we will do after leaving our B-n-B tomorrow. There was talk of the National Parks re-opening, and the optimist in me is still hopeful. Wish us luck!
